Move-in day at Westwood Gardens – What to expect

November 11, 2021

With Westwood Gardens nearly complete, it’s now time to tackle the logistics of moving into your new home. If you missed our post on the PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection) you can check it out here. The next exciting step? Occupancy and move-in.

What’s the difference between my occupancy date and my move-in date?
Let’s start with some basic terminology. Your occupancy date marks the day that you receive your keys, and the day your Tarion warranty period begins. Your move-in date is the day you physically move into your new home.

Why are these not the same thing?
The reason these two dates are often different is because generally your closing will take place in the afternoon, but the logistics of elevator bookings and move-ins are usually best scheduled with an early start. Of course, once your keys are in hand, the suite is yours, so if you have a suitcase, a few small boxes of personal items, if you want to go visit your new home, or mark the occasion with take-out on a picnic blanket on the floor, you definitely can, but for your official move-in – the day your furniture arrives and the day you get elbow-deep in boxes and big items – you’ll be able to book the elevator starting the day after occupancy.

How do I book the elevator?
The ongoing management of Westwood Gardens is in the expert hands of Melbourne Property Management, a Toronto-based firm with over 100 years of combined industry experience. To book the elevator just give them a call at 416.546.2126 x157 and they’ll help you gather all the necessary forms and information.

You’ll need:

  • A security deposit cheque
  • A completed Resident Information Form
  • Proof of insurance
  • A copy of your completed Powerstream utility enrollment form
  • If your unit is leased, you’ll also need a copy of the lease

Please remember that an elevator booking is necessary any time you have a large delivery that will require the use of the loading bay and the elevators.

What can I expect on move-in day?
One of the reasons for elevator booking is to ensure sufficient space in the loading bay for your moving truck and to make sure no vehicles are blocking the roadways or fire routes – with a location directly on Yonge Street this is particularly important. Upon arrival, check in with the concierge, they will be available for any questions. When your move-in is complete, remember to break down any large boxes and take them to the garbage / recycling room.

Together, Collecdev and Melbourne Property Management have handled tens of thousands of move-ins, so by following the procedures laid out, what you can expect is a smooth and seamless experience getting into your new home.

What will the building be like when I move in?
Please remember that, during interim occupancy, some parts of the building may still be under construction. That means that paint, wallpaper and carpets in common areas may not yet be completed as a way of protecting the building elements until the bulk of move-ins have taken place. There may be protective coverings in the elevator cabs and ongoing construction of the exterior or of the amenity spaces.

Rest assured, residents, workers and trade partners all have the same goal - to ensure a quick and successful completion of the building, so please be patient and if you have any questions, contact a member of our customer care team, we’re always here to help.
