Scandinavian design on display at Nørdic
September 12, 2019

Northern European countries are known for many things – jaw-dropping fjords, unending daylight during the summer months, and, perhaps most importantly, an unparalleled quality of life. The unique Scandinavian combination of strong social programs, immediate access to nature, and simple but considered design makes for better places and happier people - something we’re setting out to replicate at Nørdic.

It might come as a surprise, but the philosophies that make Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland some of the best places in the world in which to live are now available in an exciting new community in Wilson Heights. An emphasis on the collective. A connection between built form and the natural landscape. The perfect balance between work and play. An eye toward sustainability. An overall sense of wellness and contentment. A connection to the places, people, and things that matter. These are the philosophies driving lifestyle and design at Nørdic.

“Scandinavian design conjures the idea of effortlessness, minimalist colour palettes, organic textures, and restrained furniture placement, leaving room for people to move around within a space and take it in from different angles, at varying stages of daylight,” says Carmen Dragomir, founder of esQape design, the firm responsible for the inviting interiors at Nørdic.

The building’s architecture takes a similar approach. The principals at gh3* Architects weigh in, “Our inspiration for Nørdic came directly from the buildings you see on the historic streets of Scandinavian cities, façades with windows that let in lots of natural light and light colour palettes that provide a bright counterpoint to short winter days.”

In addition to the design-driven architecture and interiors, residents will discover a wealth of exciting amenities for the modern lifestyle. Push your FitBit into overdrive in a state-of-the-art fitness centre. Enjoy convenient access for any commute with bike share and electric car charging stations, plus direct access to Wilson subway station. And reconnect to nature with nearly 11,000 square feet of outdoor space including BBQ zones, green roofs, landscaped courtyards, a pet run, a calisthenics courtyard, and a kids play area.

With all of this close at hand, Nørdic is a study in how Scandinavian principles of design can cut across borders to deliver a better way to live, right here at home.
