Sunnywood Park at Westwood Gardens is nearing completion
April 6, 2023

The first thing you notice about the new Sunnywood Park at Westwood Gardens isn’t a thing at all, but a feeling - a sense of connection and peace. The new local park spans nearly 25,000 square feet (that’s the size of more than five NBA basketball courts!) but, thanks to masterful planning from Land Art Design Landscape Architects, the sprawling green space still feels cozy and intimate, like an extension of the traditional backyard.

Residents of this inspiring community in the heart of Richmond Hill will soon be able to step outside their front door to meet neighbours and friends in a series of lush outdoor spaces, connected by winding paths lined with flowering plants and native shrubs and trees.

The children’s playground caters to the littlest members of the family with equipment that’s not only inspiring and energizing, but also meets the latest standards for safety and sustainability. Kids will love the wooden springers and spinner plate; their charming appearance and tactile characteristics helping to build muscles and motor skills, develop a sense of balance, and improve spatial awareness. The Wizard's Hideaway lets little imaginations dream big and inspires hours of interaction and magical play within its colourful walls. And for school age kids that can't sit still, the Parkour playground presents an irresistible challenge with its responsive rope and beam configuration that encourages cooperation, communication and proprioception.

Of course, adults can have their own fun at Sunnywood in the outdoor fitness zone. Four pieces of equipment, including a multifunctional Combi 5 Pro, provide a full-body workout with seemingly endless options to break a sweat. A classic dip bench gets updated in galvanized steel with handles at varying heights, adapting to users of all levels who want to practice dips, handstands and pushups. A scalable wall and net present a bootcamp-style challenge and help build strength and bone density. The magnetic bell station is an innovative new system that recreates the feeling of a medicine ball or kettlebell, and allows users to increase resistance by increasing the speed of each movement. And the impressive Combi system combines 10 different workout stations in one, for a complete calisthenics experience, from head to toe.

In addition to the equipment, the lawns at Sunnywood are embellished with leafy trees, beautiful flowering plants, and numerous places to sit and relax under the shade of a nearby Evergreen tree or in the warmth of the sun. The park is a signature element of this Collecdev community, a nod to our understanding of the immense health benefits that come with a connection to the outdoors and spaces to socialize and interact. Westwood Gardens residents have already been spotted among the trees and we can’t wait to see that continue throughout every season.

Sunnywood Park is located at 6 Roosevelt Drive, in the Westwood Gardens community in Richmond Hill. Residents may access the park via the linear pathway directly connected to Sunnywood Park.
